MUMBLES NAVY DAYS
We go to a little Welsh town in Gower with the houses clinging to the side of a great hill. The outlook is quite lovely every hour, Busy in the day, but at night quit still.
We show off our skills by the shore, housed in a large marquee, One must say the company's wit is never poor, people come all day as there is much to see.
There is Des.Dot and me , a ship bottler,a nice lady and a knotter/splicer, We are known as the "sign of three,"All friend together, what could be nicer.
Then the organiser Tony 'C' big in size and wit,'Bob,' his best friend famous for knowing where to get the world's worst chips, Like a jigsaw everyone in the pattern seems to fit, We get lifeboats but no ships.
The "W.I." on the green, with their cakes jams and tea,to a hungry dry man they are the loveliest to be seen, In their tent is a lot to see.
A joy to perform alongside the lovely sweep of Swansea Bay, The sun sparkling like diamonds on the sea, Nowhere a lovelier sight I will always say, At sunset the sun setting red,a gorgeous memory it will always be.
The marquee packed with folk filling it with their soft welsh lilt.Makes you proud that one can entertain these people of poetry and song, creating a bond so carefully built,These memories last so long.
poem by the late "Jan Hooper".
