WHY CHANGE THE WELSH NAME TO ABBATAWE?
The Evening Post, Thursday, April First suggests that a group is bidding to change the Welsh name of Swansea, ABERTAWE to ABBATAWE to compliment the success of the group ABBA before the musical 'Mamma Mia' opens in Cardiff at the Wales Millenium Centre later this year.
What do you think? (don't forget the date today!)
WHAT A MESS WE ARE IN - DOG MESS THAT IS
The Evening Post has reported that the Swansea Council's environment enforcement team has only issued two fines for dog fouling during the last two years, despite the problem being a great concern for residents.
This has only returned £150 to Swansea whilst the Neath Port Talbot Council has handed out fines equal to £5000. (see the full story on page 9 on the Post 1-4-10).
It begs the question, are the dog owners doing the work collecting their dog mess or are the enforcement team not doing their job?

PACT MEETING REPORT from the Con. Club in Mumbles Weds 14th April
The main thrust of the meeting came from the residents of Langland, who were concerned about the speeding of cars in the car parks also the number of bonfires that are lit along the beach. Other items discussed included the inconsiderate parking of cars in the Castle Street and Queens Road areas. The police however stated that they do not have suffient powers to move these cars. This, I feel, needs a review of theses powers with the return to the police of the control of parking offences.
The damage by vandals of trees in the area was also discussed. If you have any information about this matter please contact the police or City Council.
There was quite a good turn-out of residents also with 6 members of the Police force attending and 6 members of the Mumbles Community Council.
Let me have your comments please. (Editor)

"There is nothing for the Tourists"
An interesting letter in the Evening Post, Tues. 27th April by a Max Edwards-
(in reply to an a letter about the New Ferry Service (Post 21 April).
Suggests "that Swansea, advertising itself as a tourist destination is open to interpretation when compared with other UK tourist hotspots."
It goes on to suggest that "those arriving on the new ferry service, do not alight at High Street station to be faced with the top end of High Street."
"Swansea generally is a building site and has been for years.
The seafront, what is there? a prison, a string of tired guesthouses, a demolition site, all in need of a revamp and cleansing of litter and dog excrement"
Well the letter goes on to highlight this gentleman's poor view of Swansea, suggesting also that "The bus service to Gower is laborious, lengthy and infrequent. Where can tourists go? And please don't mention the LC or the beach again."
By the way he does not publish his address. I wonder why?
Editor's note. If you have any comments please let me know.
SUPPORT FOR THE MONEY FOR MUMBLES CAMPAIGN
Richard Youle in the Evening Post April 26th reported that Mr Kevin Hancock from Skewen will be riding his Honda C 90 around Britains coastline to raise funds for the Money for Mumbles campaign towards the provision of a new super lifeboat for the area. The aim of the fund is to raise £150,000 towards its cost. Mr Steve Wood set up the fund last year in memory of his son Lee who died in a boating accident in Gower in 2004.
Mr Kevin Hancock, a friend of Mr Steve Wood will set out from Mumbles Lifeboat Station on May 1st and travel around the coast of Britain keeping the sea on his right hand side at all times. It will take fifteen days to complete the trip and Mr Hancock says that he won't be travelling over 50 MPH and at a hundred miles to the gallon the Honda C90 won't cost a bomb to run.
Britain has 174 mainland lifeboat stations including 4 on the River Thames and 1 at Loch Ness.
So far £67,000 has been raised for the fund and Mr Hancock hopes to be able to increase that amount with his efforts.
GO FOR IT AND BEST OF LUCK! we say and if you would like to sponsor Mr Hancock you can go to http://www.justgiving.com/numbumring
