SUPPORT FOR THE MONEY FOR MUMBLES CAMPAIGN

Richard Youle in the Evening Post April 26th reported that Mr Kevin Hancock from Skewen will be riding his Honda C 90 around Britains coastline to raise funds for the Money for Mumbles campaign towards the provision of a new super lifeboat for the area. The aim of the fund is to raise £150,000 towards its cost. Mr Steve Wood set up the fund last year in memory of his son Lee who died in a boating accident in Gower in 2004.

Mr Kevin Hancock, a friend of Mr Steve Wood will set out from Mumbles Lifeboat Station on May 1st and travel around the coast of Britain keeping the sea on his right hand side at all times. It will take fifteen days to complete the trip and Mr Hancock says that he won't be travelling over 50 MPH and at a hundred miles to the gallon the Honda C90 won't cost a bomb to run.

Britain has 174 mainland lifeboat stations including 4 on the River Thames and 1 at Loch Ness.

So far £67,000 has been raised for the fund and Mr Hancock hopes to be able to increase that amount with his efforts.

GO FOR IT AND BEST OF LUCK! we say and if you would like to sponsor Mr Hancock you can go to http://www.justgiving.com/numbumring

THE ADJUDICATION PANEL FOR WALES

APPOINTMENT OF NEW MEMBERS

The Adjudication Panel for Wales was established under Part III of the Local Government Act 2000 as part of the new ethical framework for local government in England and Wales.  Part of the framework comprises a statutory model code of conduct which members and co-opted members of relevant local authorities are required to observe.

A panel member’s role is to sit on tribunals to determine cases referred to the Panel by the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales relating to allegations that a member of a relevant authority has breached their authority’s code of conduct, and to determine whether that member should be suspended or disqualified.  The Panel also hears appeals by members against the determinations of their authority’s Standards Committee that they have breached the code of conduct.

We are seeking 2 legal members and 2 lay members:

Legal members: applicants for a position as a legal member must be barristers or solicitors of at least five years standing with public law experience.  The current fee is £398 per day.  Legal members will also be expected to chair tribunals.

Lay members: applicants will possess a sound knowledge and understanding of the issues likely to confront the tribunal arising from the code of conduct.  Some experience of working for, or closely with, local authorities would be desirable, but is not essential.  The current fee is £244 per day.

An ability to speak Welsh would be desirable but not essential for these appointments.

Current members of Standards Committees in Wales and the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales cannot be members of the Adjudication Panel.

We particularly welcome and encourage applications from under-represented groups including women, minority ethnic communities and disabled people.

For an application pack and further details, please contact Public Appointments Unit by post at The Welsh Assembly Government, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3NQ, by telephone on 029 2082 3416/3799, by fax on 029 2082 6869 or by e-mail addressed to PublicAppointments@wales.gsi.gov.uk.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 26 May 2010.  Application forms received after this date will not be considered.  Interviews are likely to be conducted in the week commencing 6 September 2010.

A large print, Braille or audio version of this advert can be obtained by request from 029 2082 5372.

SWANSEA IS GOING PINK!

At last, most of your rubbish, including that which can be recycled, will be collected from your kerbside.

The Pink Bag should be used to put your plastic waste in. It must be totally clean so please ensure they are washed out and crushed to save space.

These will be collected on alternate weeks. For further details check

Would You Like To Be Part Of The Audience For 'Any Questions?'

On Friday May 21st BBC Radio 4's 'Any Questions?' will be coming live from
Gowerton School, Swansea.

Since 1948 this influential programme has been broadcast from a different UK venue every Friday just after the 8.00.P.M. News on Radio 4. It is repeated on Saturday after the 1.00.P.M. News and is followed by Any Answers? at 2.00.P.M. It is chaired by Jonathan Dimbleby and is listened to by around 1.5 Million people per week. As part of its commitment to playing a central role in the community, Gowerton School is delighted to be able to host the show. The school would like to invite members of the public to join its
staff, parents and pupils for an evening that, so soon after the General
Election, promises to be one of lively debate.

For those not familiar with the programme, it consists of 4 eminent panellists
answering questions put by the audience. The panel will normally include at
least one senior politician. Renowned writers, social commentators,
journalists, figures from the worlds of the Arts, Science and Business are
also possibilities. Often panellists are not finalised until the week before
the program and we do not know yet who will be on it. It is a topical
program, which looks for .'Questions on the most stimulating moral,
political and social issues of the day'. In practice, this usually means
questions based on whatever has been making the news during the week of the programme and the areas of expertise of the panellists.

Ideally you should be prepared to ask a short question, which can be written
on the counterfoil of the ticket or paper provided on the night, and ask it
on air if it is chosen. There is no limit to the number of questions you can
submit. The programme producers usually select about 7 or 8 for broadcast. The minimum age limit for audience members is 14 and you will need to arrive at the school between 18.45.PM. and 19.15.P.M.

Tickets are free and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
To apply, please email or phone Steve Pullinger with your contact
details:steve.pullinger1@virgin.net, 01792 850231.
